“Meet Sharon and Pete : Your Guides of Brittany”
5 Years ago in 2019 we made the move to the small village of Rohan with the Nantes et Brest Canal flowing through the middle. Rohan is in the Morbihan Department of Brittany and here we have settled here as ex pats. Having bought our house the year before as a holiday home. The house was habitable yet also in need of some extensive renovations. We thought it would be an on-going project where we could spend holidays and our 5 grown up daughters could holiday with their families too. We had an ethos about the house that it was a privilege for us to have and it was there to be shared by family and friends.
However, a huge curve ball was thrown at us when Pete and I were both made redundant from our long term employment in the UK – in the same week!!!! 6months after collecting the keys of our French home!! Two completely different jobs Me (Sharon) a Teacher and Pete a Transport / Operations Manager.
We deliberated what on earth we could do with the uncertainty of no income and decided that we would take time to stay in our Brittany home and complete the renovations and then re-evaluate a year later. That Deliberation took us all of 1 hour !!!
The move happened on the French National day ( Fete Nationale) July 14th 2019 this day used to be called Bastille day , but this title is no longer used.
Renovations began and by the end of September we were alerted to the necessity to make our long term decisions sooner as Brexit was looming and different types of registrations were needed to be made. So with advice under our belts we set up Pete’s gardening and property maintenance business and we registered the house for Chambre D’hotes – More on this in a longer more specific Blog post
Fast forward 5 years to now and with the Chambre D’hotes firmly on the map and Pete’s business doing very well we have decided to share our passion for Brittany with you .
Pete and I have embarked on this new adventure (or truthfully an additional adventure)– a blog and soon to be coupled with a YouTube Vlog, that shares our joy of the landscapes, the diversity of the villages, towns and cities, the culture & traditions, the cuisine, the industry, the fetes, the coastline, the walking, the bird life, the wildlife the lifestyle plus much much more…
We feel we need to shout from the roof tops (or should I say the social media platforms) the joys of living in this vibrant region.
We will visit, eat, walk, review, report on the places we visit and interview those who have a plethora of knowledge and passion for Brittany as we do, coupled with photographs and videos. We will engage with the Breton People and the Expat Community to bring you real life stories of what it is like to live here in Brittany.
